The Old Plank Road Trail is a 20+ mile asphalt paved
trail that runs east from Joliet to Park Forest. The paved
hiking and cycling trail was created from a former Michigan
Central Railroad property. Will County Parks and Recreation
is presently ex tending the Old Plank Road Trail (OPRT) another
four miles from New Lenox into Joliet where connections can
be made with the Illinois and Michigan Canal Trail (I&M).
The OPRT opened in the Summer of 1997 to immediate success.
It connects the south suburban communities of Chicago Heights,
Park Forest, Matteson and Frankfort. Nearby residential developments
are marketing the trail as a selling point to prospective
home buyers. |
